Giving Battlestar Galactica a 2nd chance

i just finished seeing the third season of Battlestar Galactica on tv, and i must say that sometimes it’s really worth giving a series another chance.  after this season i can finally understand all the hype and great reviews that it got overseas.

i don’t know if you guys ever watched this series, but i remember talking with haratchet some time ago after seeing a few of the first season episodes.  to say we weren’t impressed was to say the least.  while the story had potential, the actors didn’t.  the characters seemed interesting and intriguing but none of the actors who played them made it look real and genuine.  that was the series biggest critical flaw.  it’s second flaw was the writing.  the story was too slow for a starting sci-fi series to get a good start.  just a few episoded after and it seemed like the show was in it’s 7th season.  the rest was okay. the special effects were very cool as they had exactly the Firefly style.  the music was also quite good and original.  however i didn’t bother seeing all the season, and gave up.

a few months ago Yes aired the second season and although i didn’t plan to, i found myself watching it occasionally.  here the show did a complete change for the best.  for some un-explained reason the actors gradually became believable.  thru the mid-season they actually became good.  now i don’t know if it’s because they finally understood their characters, or perheps their bodies were snached and replaced by different actors, but something changed.  they did bring some new actors like Dean Stockwell and Lucy Lawless to freshen up things.  the writing also got alot better with more development from episode to episode.  finally, with a fantastic season finale and cliffhanger, the show finally gave me something to look for.

enter the third season.  if i had to describe it in one word it would be Brilliant.  this is how they should have started the show.  with great writing, believable and interesting actors and characters plus a good imaginative story, i dare to say i felt at times the same feeling i had while watching Stargate.

now, after watching an even better season finale than the last one, i can’t wait for the forth and final season of Battlestar Galactica.  i can safely say i’m glad i gave the show another chance.

i recommend you too.

Harachet pretty much talked me off watching this one, i trust his instincts regarding these things, but i suppose it’s worth a shot.
